"To do something, however small, to make others happier and better, is the highest ambition, the most elevating hope, which can inspire a human being."
John Lubbock
…these are just some of the ways ALIG members make our commitment to our charities a reality.

Every year we raise funds to relieve poverty, provide education and health programs and bring a little cheer into the lives of people whose daily lives are defined by the least resources and the harshest realities in the area. Every week groups of ALIG volunteers help teach, encourage and support children and their families as they struggle to survive and hope to thrive against overwhelming odds.
Our social events, plus others such as garage sales, social gatherings, print sales and profits from our regular meetings mean that we can continue to support the people who need it most.
The following are some of the key charities we support.
Drop in centre for street children. This centre provides washing facilities, meals and education support for up 50 children a day. A group of women visits there every Thursday afternoon to do a craft or play games. We provide P7,500 a month for food (mostly rice).
Contact Traci West if you want to join us, when we visit Tunasan.
Residential home for abused or exploited girls. The home caters for up to 250 girls while they wait for their court hearings. This is a government funded facility. A group of ladies visit every first and third Monday of the month. We provide P12,000 for baking ingredients for the bakery.
Contact Ruth Bates if you want to join us, when we visit Marillac.
This school provides education for physically handicapped children and their siblings.
This organization is run by a small group of European nuns offering community assistance by way of a health clinic, livelihood project and a preschool.

This is a residential home for homeless children and caters for approx 60 children aged seven – 18yrs. We donate P7,500 a month for rice and toiletries. On top of that, we instigated a rice sponsorship programme to help supply the home with much needed staples.
A public hospital in Manila. We have supported the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) ward in the past.
How Can You Help Locally?
A little goes a long way here, so you'd be surprised at how easy it is to contribute and make a difference. Some of the many ways ALIG members pitched in last year were:

ALIG works hard throughout the year raising funds for the many charities we support. No matter how hard we work, the needs far outweigh our resources.
Two years ago, we developed a new strategy to tackle the effects of rising prices on the already stretched budgets of many of our charities, and developed the Pacita Rice Sponsorship program.
The goal of the program is to guarantee a monthly supply of rice to feed the children of Pacita. Rice is the staple foodstuff here in the Philippines, and can be eaten up to five times per day. Not surprisingly the costs to provide the required amount of rice are high and often more "expensive" foods such as vegetables and meat are often sacrificed.
For just P775 per month you can sponsor rice for Pacita and help ensure that the children there receive nutritious meals. ALIG purchases and delivers the rice directly to Pacita, so you can be sure that the money you contribute goes where it should.
To join our sponsors simply download this form and complete it as instructed. If you would like to know more details about how the program works or other ways you can help please contact us.
A number of non residents of the Philippines have asked if they can participate in the program. The answer is a resounding YES, you can!
We currently have a number of sponsors from the UK, New Zealand and the USA, and we'd be happy to let you know how we can sign you up, regardless of where you live. Just contact us.
