An international network, a social circle and a way of working together to support local charities: these are the different faces of ALIG.
Formed over a decade ago by a group of expatriate women who wanted to make the most of their time in Alabang and connect to their hosts both socially and through volunteering and fund raising, ALIG now has a membership of around 110 members. Today we come from all across the world, have connections to global organizations, volunteer together in education and development projects and raise funds for our local charities.
We connect with each other in many ways, exchanging ideas and opinions and embracing our different cultures. At our monthly meetings we explore different perspectives on our host country as well as topics ranging from holiday destinations to keeping healthy. Our social events take in exploratory trips, shopping excursions, parties and informal get togethers. ALIG’s activities groups help us share our talents: from painting, photography and music, to technology and dance.
To make sure we keep connected and informed, our secure Yahoo Group lists everything from what’s-on to links to other organizations and even members’ for-sale-and-wanted postings. To help our newcomers settle in easily, our monthly welcome coffee mornings link those who have just arrived with others who have “been there, done that”.
Most importantly, our fund raising and volunteer opportunities help us give back to the community that welcomes us by supporting some of the area’s most needy children and families through our different programs.
This website is designed for both our current members, to help keep you informed with what is happening in the village and beyond, as well as to give newcomers to a taste of what they canIs it already that time of year again? All board positions are declared vacant at the end of 2008. Then at the AGM on January 29th 2009 we'll elect a new committee.
A number of current board members are leaving the Philippines, so we definitely need new people to join the team. If you would like to get involved ask any committee member what the job entails.
We'd love to hear from you.
